New Delhi: The 72nd National Film Awards celebrated some of Indian cinema's most acclaimed performances and films, with Article 370 emerging as one of the biggest winners of the year. The politically charged drama not only secured the prestigious Best Feature Film honour but also earned Yami Gautam the Best Actress award for her performance.
In the Best Actor category, the jury recognised two outstanding performances, jointly honouring Mammootty for the Malayalam psychological thriller Bramayugam and Kartik Aaryan for his portrayal of Paralympic champion Murlikant Petkar in Chandu Champion.
The award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment went to the Telugu sci-fi spectacle Kalki 2898 AD, acknowledging its blend of commercial appeal, visual grandeur and engaging storytelling.
Among language-specific honours, Srikanth, inspired by the life of entrepreneur Srikanth Bolla, was declared the Best Hindi Feature Film, earning recognition for its inspirational narrative and impactful performances.
Filmmaker Randeep Hooda also had reason to celebrate as Swatantrya Veer Savarkar received the Best Debut Film of a Director award, marking a significant milestone in his directorial career.
This year's National Film Awards reflected the diversity of Indian cinema, honouring films across genres and languages while recognising performances and stories that resonated with audiences as well as critics. From socially relevant dramas to historical biopics and large-scale entertainers, the awards showcased the breadth of talent shaping contemporary Indian filmmaking.
