Welcome to the Live blogging of PTC Punjabi Film Awards 2016

This year there isn’t much buzz for the awards and not many celebs are attending the awards.

The hearthrob Diljit Dosanjh is busy shooting in Mumbai and isn’t attending the awards this year.

Seems like PTC won’t let us miss Diljit Dosanjh. The show opens with Diljit’s dialogue and song from the disastrous Mukhtiar Chadha.

We can see actors like Gavie Chahal, harish Verma, Kuljinder Sidhu, Vindu Dara Singh, Kartar Cheema sitting on the chairs.

Also Bollywood’s Vicky Kaushal is attending the awards with his dad Sham Kaushal, the famous action director.

Gauhar Kahn welcomes the audience and viewers to the show.

She looks like she has worked a lot on her Punjabi Language. She is impressing me with her dialogue delivery.

Wait! I jus spotted Pammi Bai sitting 3 rows ahead me. #ShiShi

And here’s the man of the moment: Binnu Dhillon.

We all know how funny he is, and hope makes us laugh tonight and makes the night memorable.

No, Gauhar Khan there’s no Shah Rukh Khan coming tonight on this show.

I don’t see much excitement in the crowd as of now. Remind you, this is the first time PTC launched paid tickets for the audiences. Earlier it was just complimentary passes. So come on give the audience a worth of their money.

Teji Sandhu and Amann Grewal will be presenthing the award for the Best Background Score. And the award goes to Raju Singh for Shareek. #Deserved. The award is colleceted by Navaniat Singh, the director of Shareek on his behalf.

We shall also let our viewers know, if the award was genuinely deserved or PTC- Pehla Ton Chuneya Hoya.

Best Editing: Baljit Singh Deo and Rohit Dhiman for Hero Naam Yaad Rakhi. Well there were better films than this which were edited well.

Next Award is for Cinematography. The award will be presented by Isha Rikhi and Poonam Sud. The award goes to Baljit Singh Deo for Faraar. Jaggi Singh accepts the award on Deo’s behalf. As Jassi Singh said, we’ll also say, “Deserved”.

Next Award is for Best Story. Sham Kaushal and Vindu Dara Singh will present the award. The award goes to Amberdeep Singh for Angrej. #Deserved.

Next Award is for Best dialogues. It will be presented by Shivender Mahal and Nisha Bano. And the award goes to Jatinder Lal for Sardaarji. Since nobody is here to coolect the award, Binnu Dhillon accepts the award on his behalf.

Next award is for Best Screenplay and Binnu asks the meaning of Screenplay involved in Punjabi Films. Well there isnt any screenplay involved in Punjabi Films.

The award will be presented by Girjia Shankar along with some of the Sponsor representative. And the award goes to Amberdeep Singh for Angrej. Deserved Again. His second award for the night. Amberdeep explains the meaning of Screenplay to the audience.

Now is time for a performance by Kainaat Arora.

Now is time for Best Lyricist Award to be presented by Pammi Bai. The award goes to Happy Raikoti for Kurta, Angrej. Since Happy is unavailable some from his team will collect the award on his behalf.

Next is the award for Best Music Director. Malkiat Singh comes to the stage to announce the winner and the award goes to Jatinder Shah for Angrej. Jatinder is helped by Binnu Dhillon and Amrinder Gill to reach the stage.

Now is time for Sunidhi Chauhan’s performance. Sunidi will be performing her songs from Punjabi Films.

Harish Verma now replaces Binnu Dhillon and joins Amrinder Gill for hosting the show.

Now is the time for another award, Best Playback singer (Female) and to present the award Kainaat Arora along with Gavie Chahal come to the stage. Sunidhi Chauhan is the winner for her song Sohnea Sajjna from the film Hero Naam Yaad Rahi. Since, she had just performed, Navkiran Dhaliwal, producer of Hero collects the award on her behalf.

Hobby Dhaliwal and Dev Kharoud make their way to the stage to announce the Best Playback Singer (Male). The award goes to Manmohan Waris for his song Parne Nu from the film Faraar. Since he isn’t available the award will be collected by someone from the team of Faraar.

Best Performance in Comic Role is the next award category, Ravinder Narayan and Rajie M Shinde of PTC are to present the award. Ms Rajie speaks about the last year. “The last year has been different for the industry. We have seen films like Shareek and Angrej.” And the winner is Binnu Dhillon for Munde Kamaal De. Binnu who has just left the stage rushes back to the stage to collect the award. Binnu counts the importance of the producers for the film. Thanks the team for the support.

Since Binnu is on stage, the teaser and the poster of his upcoming film Dulla Bhatti Wala. The whole team of the film is on stage. This film will show Binnu in a serious role doing some action.

Time for some for film promotions, this time it’s Harish Verma’s Vaapsi.

Never have I ever seen this before. Sunidhi missed to collect the award and now they are calling Vicky Kaushal to fecilitate Sunidhi Chauhan.

Now is the time for Best Action Award, Manoj Vajpayee and Divya Dutta are to honour the winner. And the award goes to Shaam Kaushal for Shareek.

Manoj and Divya stay on the stage to announce Best Performance in Negative Role. The award is given to Mukul Dev for Shareek. Weel he deserves it. He isn’t here, so the award will be collected by someone from the team.

Ravindra Narayan and Rajiee M Shinde of PTC honour Manoj Vajpayee.

Almost two hours into the award show, Abhay Deol is invited to the stage to light the lamp is joined by Ravindra Narayan and Rajiee M Shinde of PTC. The duo honour the actor on stage. Abhay says Chandigarh is his favourite city.

Another celebrity to be honoured now. Sunidhi Chauhan is now honoured by Ravindra Narayan and Rajiee M Shinde.

Now is the time for Gippy Grewal performance. Gippy starts with a desi touch, Tu Kahengi Sunna Ajj Chamkeela.

Gurdas Mann has also joined the event. He is seen seated in the crowd.

Arjan Bajwa ow joins Amrinder Gill for hosting the award show.

Now is time for Shehan Shah E Comedy Award, this special recognition award will be conferred to Mehar Mittal. Gurdas Mann is too invited on the stage to honour Mehar Mittal. Visible signs of aging, Mehar Mittal needs support to walk down to the stage. Gurdass Mann bows to confer the award to him while the audience is giving him standing ovation. Mehar Mittal shares some funny memories of his life.

Dr. Harjit Singh is conferred with Life Time Achievement Award. He has last worked as a director for Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhe. Gurdas Mann will be conferring the award to him along with Ravinder Narayan and Rajiee M Shinde.

Now is the time for Best Debut Female category. Guggu Gill and Mukesh Tiwari will be presenting the award. The award is shared by Aditi Sharma for Angrej and Guahar Khan for Oh Yaara Ainvayi Ainvayi Lut Gaya. Aditi is overwhelmed.

Now is the time for best debut male, Gulshan Grover and sponsor representatives will be giving this award. And it’s a tie, the first winner is Ammy Virk for Angrej who hugs Amberdeep on his way to stage. Also the second winner is Deep Sidhu for Ramta Jogi, Deep Sidhu says he is surprised to receive the award. Well Deep we are more surprised than you are.

Gurdas Mann is invited on stage to honour Gulshan Grover. Ravinder Narayan and Rajiee M Shinde join too.

Some self promotion by Gulshan Grover for his upcoming film Bad Man produced by viacom 18. Now we see the trailer of it too. How many of them are we going to see tonight?

Gippy Grewal is chosen for the jury award for versatility. He collects the award from Rabinder Narayan and Rajiee M Shinde of PTC Network.

Next category is of Best Supporting Actress, Yaad Grewal with a sponsor representative is on stage. Mandy Takhar for Sardaar Ji is the winner. Since Mandy isn’t available, the award is collected by a Team member of Sardaar Ji.

The next category is of Best Supporting Actor. Satinder Satti and Kartar Cheema are on the stage to do the honours. And the award goes to BN Sharma for his role in Judge Singh LLB. Satinder Satti in her short stint at stage makes the anchors of the evening look dull. She is one of the greatest anchors Punjab would have ever got. Wonder why PTC turns a blind eye on her.

And now is the time for another performance. Chitrangda Singh will be enthralling the crowd with her performance

Award of Honour for Chitrangada Singh by the head honchos of PTC Network now. And she thanks the audience. She complains about the quiet crowd at the award show.

Special Recognition award for Japtej Singh. Japtej worked as young Milkha in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and was seen in Mitti Na Pharol Jogiya. Gippy Grewal present the award to Japtej.

Next Award is for Most Promising Talent. Roshan Prince got it last to last year, Jassi Gill got it the year before. Jaggy Singh bags it this year. He played the baddie in Faraar and Hero Naam Yaad Rakhi. Navaniat Singh and Jaidev Kumar will present it.

Trailer launch of Jora Das Nambariya starring Deep Sindhu. Directed by Amardeep Singh Gill and is releasing this winter. It’s based on true events.

Let me remind you: The hosting duo Arminder Gill and Harish Verma played brothers in Daddy Cool Munde Fool and share great chemistry.

Haven’t we seen enough trailers for the night? Time for another trailer: This time it is PTC’s home production, Zorawar starring Yo Yo Honey Singh. The trailer of the film has been extensively played during the commercials in the award show.

Thank God it’s just trailers for now. Back in Year 1 and 2 of these awards there used to be dedicated 5-8 minutes of promotions.

It’s Yo Yo time now. Honey Singh is on the stage to perform his songs. Well most of them will be from Zorawar itself. We all know! Wait it’s red haired Jasmine Sandals before Yo Yo on stage.

Well they just played the CD of his songs. I didn’t enjoy the performance at all.

I don’t know about you all. Now it’s the star cast of Zorawar film on stage. The cast and crew of the film includes Mukul Dev, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Parul Gualati and Director Vinnil Markan. Looks like Mukul Dev has got a hair cut.

While Mukul speaks about the film, the music of the film plays in the background. To which Mukul Dev reacts “Either let me speak or you play the music.”

Rememberance Audio Visual played for Labh Janjua. Labh Janjua’s wife and son has been invited on the stage and will be honoured by Gurdas Mann.

These award shows by PTC are always chaotic. One after other mistakes they do on air. Sheer insensitivity by the channel by playing a pop song of Honey Singh by mistake while Labh Janjua’s wife was making her way to stage.

Gurdas Mann pays tribute to the departed soul.

It;s time for the unveiling of yet another song. It’s Superman from Zorawar. It features Yo Yo and Parul Gulati who is looking stunning in the video.

Time for Critics Awards! Critics award for Best director will be presented by Mukul Dev.And the award goes to Navaniat Singh for Shareek. A warm reception given to Navaniat by Mukul Dev. Short and Crisp acceptance speech by Navaniat

Critics Award for Best Actress will be presented by Yo Yo Honey Singh and the award goes to Amann Grewal from Mitti Na Pharol Jogiya.

Critics Award for Best Actor will be presented by Sruveen Chawla. There she is. Looking as stunning as always. The award goes to Pawan Malhotra for Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhe. yes he was brilliant as Bhagat Puran Singh in the film. Pawan thanks the director and Pingalwara for the role.

Critics Award for Best Film will be presented by Swara Bhaskar. She’s worked in some great films like Tanu Weds Manu, Listen Amaya and Raanjhana. The award for best film goes to Kudessan.

We are tired of trailers and here comes another trailer. This time of a Hindi Film Nil Battey Sannata. The film features Swara Bhaskar, Ratna Pathak Shah and Pankaj Tripathi.

Time for Amrinder Gill’s performance. Hopefully it’s the last performance of the night. I need to go home.

What’s he doing here? Oh Wait, Amrinder is giving a dance performance tonight and not a singing performance.

Amrinder Gill who mesmerised viewers with Bhangra with Binnu Dhillon in the last edition of these awards doesn’t even match 10 percent of his last performance.

For the night is young yet: Time for a Hindi Film promotion, Swara Bhaskar is back on stage promoting Nil Battey Sannata. She speaks about the film and compares actors to politicians. Says we actors are like politicians like they ask for votes during elections, the same way we ask the audience to buy tickets for the film. The truth has been spoken.

Swara is speaking non stop. It shows the research done by PR teams in Mumbai who send their artists well prepared for promotions unlike the Punjabi actors who take the PR teams for granted.

And guess what, Sruveen Chawla is part of the producers for the film: Nil Battey Sannata under the banner of Sandman Pictures.

Now is the turn of the category which got the most number of Nominations, Most Popular Song of the year. And the award will be presented by Preet Harpal, Vinnil Markan and the sponsor representatives.

The award goes to Veer Vaar by Diljit Dosanjh. Composed by Jatinder Shah and written by Ranbir Singh. Truly deserved award. The video has got over 15 million hits on YouTube.

Finally towards the popular awards now. Award for Best Director will be presented by Manjit Mann. The award goes to Simerjit Singh for Angrej.

Trivia: Manjit Mann got the award for Best Director Critics Choince in Year 1 of PTC Awards in 2011 for Sukhmani Hope For Life.

Award for the Best Actress now. The award will be presented by Aching Kaur. And the award goes to Sargun Mehta.

Sargun begins her speech by thanking her family and her husband Ravi Dubey. And then thanks the team of Angrej.

Next is the Best Actor Award. The award will be presented by Pawan Malhotra. The award goes to Amrinder Gill for Angrej.

Amrinder thanks his family for their support. And then the backbone of the film Amberdeep Singh next. Then the cast and crew of the film. Isn’t Amrinder Gil missing the name of Aman Khatkar??? Wasn’t he one of the producers as well? And also the Distributor in Canada region.
