The heat is turning up for popular YouTuber and comedian Samay Raina, with the Supreme Court now stepping in over some of his older content. In a new twist, the Cure SMA Foundation has filed an application saying Raina mocked patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in two videos.
They’ve also pointed out other clips where he allegedly made fun of blind and cross-eyed individuals. The group wants these types of jokes banned under the upcoming rules for online content.
Justice Surya Kant, who was hearing a case related to digital content creators, didn’t hold back. He called the issue “very serious” and “disturbing,” asking the complainants to bring the actual clips to court and start the process of formally adding Raina to the case.
One video in question reportedly jokes about a two-month-old SMA baby who needed a ?16 crore injection—ironically, the same case that had earlier reached the Supreme Court and led to a duty waiver for the medicine.
The Foundation says this is just one example of a much bigger issue, where people with disabilities are turned into punchlines.
For now, the court hasn’t taken direct action against Raina, but the tone is clear: this issue isn't going away quietly.
Meanwhile, in the same hearing, YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s lawyer was told to check the allegations against Raina. The court is keeping a close watch on how content creators use their platforms, and the consequences may just be beginning.
