Gippy Grewal highlights biggest challenge: The Punjabi superstar has credited the producers for their sincere efforts while shooting 'Paani Ch Madhaani'.
Superstar Punjabi pair of Gippy Grewal and Neeru Bajwa will be sharing screen after a decade in their upcoming Punjabi movie titled 'Paani Ch Madhaani'. In what will be both Grewal and Bajwa's first movie since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, Paani Ch Madhaani is all set to release on the auspicious occasions of Diwali.
Considering how the terms Paani [water] and Madhaani [manual valona machine] don't generally go together with each other, Grewal explained that the title of the movie is inspired from an old Punjabi saying which is used to describe a resultless situation.
"The term 'Paani Ch Madhaani' is used when something faces repeated delays [to a work] to the extent that the possibility of its fulfilment reduces to nil. It's like when nothing appears to happening in terms of results despite wholehearted efforts.
"Gulli [Gippy Grewal] and Sohni [Neeru Bajwa], who run a musical band [in the movie], face a similar situation in their lives. Ohna di Paani Ch Madhaani payi rehndi hai," Grewal told Punjabi Mania in a promotional interview.
Grewal, who had made his acting debut opposition Bajwa and Jimmy Sheirgill in Navaniat Singh's 'Mel Karade Rabba' (2010), was also seen alongside Bajwa (and Diljit Dosanjh) in Mandeep Kumar's 'Jihne Mera Dil Luteya' (2011). Bajwa, who was a common name in Grewal's first two movies, was wax lyrical about him and his progress over the years in addition to sharing a brief anecdote around his first-ever scene on a film set.
"Well, I was there when Gippy ji had given his first shot in Mel Karade Rabba. A common one-word opinion among everyone was 'Superstar'. I think it was primarily because of his confidence level and aura.
"As a human being, he's very humble and down to earth. He has developed so much knowledge about writing and directing. He's an encyclopedia of film-making. I have learnt a lot from him," Bajwa said in the same interview.
Gippy Grewal highlights biggest challenge while shooting 'Paani Ch Madhaani'
Grewal, who has arguably been the biggest contributor to the Punjabi industry on the back of donning multiple hats super-successfully in the last decade or so, claimed Paani Ch Madhaani to be the best-ever Punjabi movie visually.
"The films depicts a story of 1980s. It's a complete entertainer. In my opinion, if you go by the visuals, it is going to the best Punjabi movie ever," Grewal said.
The last half-a-decade has witnessed a large number of period movies in the Punjabi film industry. A major difference between all those movies and Paani Ch Madhaani is that the latter has periodic sequences in the UK and not just in Punjab. It is this facet of Paani Ch Madhaani which according to Grewal was the biggest challenge while shooting the movie.
"A lot [of research was needed]. It's all about research. Paani Ch Madhaani has been writted by Naresh Kathuria sahab and directed by Vijay Kumar Arora ji [Daadu]. The two of them had spent a lot of time before and during the shoot of the movie.
"The biggest challenge was to shoot [a period movie] in the UK. Finding buildings and cars which resembled the 80s was a task. In addition to ensuring that the costumes don't look modern, we had our own [vintage] cars on the roads to show a periodic era. We had to shoot many scenes in front of a chrome [screen]. It was quite hard and expensive. Credit to the producers for their efforts," Grewal added.
