Range Road 290: Satinder Kassoana Directorial Depicts Canada and Canadian Punjabis In Bad Light

Each day we see that Punjabi cinema is growing and coming up with new types of Genres and new types of films. The concept of these films is outstanding and few click with the audience but few of them fail to entertain the audience and do not live up to the expectations.

This week’s latest release Range Road 290 is one of these films which is a new experiment in Punjabi Cinema. The movie is directed by Satinder Kassoana and features Amanindar Dhillon, Harsharan Singh, Arsh Purba and Daljit Sandhu as lead characters. The film highlights the gang wars, murders, drug cartels and many other negative things that exist in the society. Let’s know more about the film in detail.

The film Range Road 290 depicts a day in the life of Calgary-based drug dealers, Samar and Jeeta, two street-smart Punjabis. Samar returns home to an estranged wife, Kamal, that day after serving three years in prison. He returns home with a plan to plunder his boss Kala and elope in the witness-protection programme, even though his time in prison taught him the value of family and friendship. Jeeta wants to support Samar but struggles with choosing between friendship and allegiance. Their unique motivations and problems emerge into a terrifying clash as the day goes on.

The film shows the negative impact of living in Canada. As we see many Punjabis prefer to move to a foreign country and Canada being their first choice, this film reflects the Canadian Punjabis in bad light engaging in drug wars, gang wars and many other illegal activities. I am sure that many Punjabis after watching this film would have doubts in their mind regarding whether to go to Canada or not.

After watching the film today, I also felt that the film’s screenplay and its plot were very subdued and subpar. It was overblown to the point where it became boring at many intervals. Much more could be stated, but let's end the story here in the hopes that better films will be released soon in Punjabi Cinema.

The film has been released on a very limited scale in Punjab and there are hardly any shows all over. Rather I would state that there are more words in this article than the number of people who might watch the film!
